This is the new working logo for lawrencefolio
I really didn’t have a lot of imagery other than my logo and navigation.
So honestly, I don’t really like my site. But I feel like it meets some of my objectives, and I don’t hate it. I just don’t like it.
My imagery is really simple, which I like. It’s also really not creative, which I don’t like. Hence the redo.
Anyway,
It’s a portfolio.
I’ll be using a lot of my past work as the images used on the website, to showcase what I do. I will also want to be able to add more images of things I’ll be working on. One image I’ll be using is a logo for myself. It’s a design I came up with to create an identity for myself. It’s the letter “K” (for Kassie of course) flipped backwards. I used the bell gothic font, because I liked the way the strokes of the “K” don’t actually touch the stem. I used it to make it look like an arrow. I think the arrow affect is enhanced when I add the title of my website to the side of it (designbykassie).

Besides all my portfolio the only main images used will be my header information, directional arrows and the hello speech bubbles. There are not many images used in my site so it is limited. Most navigation is just plain text. The Speech bubble only appears in the sidebar used to call out information. Logo is used in the header. Directional arrows are used for navigation.
Imagery should be selected carefully because it can say so much more than a paragraph.
Because portfolio sites are heavy with visual information the imagery on my site was the work that I have done. The imagery needs to be large in the gallery. However, I wanted the home and preliminary gallery pages to have a taste of my portfolio so they have snitchets of my portfolio work, (just enough to grab the curiosity of the viewer and not so much that they won’t learn anything new when they see the actual piece in my portfolio.)

Going along with a minimalist look, the website’s imagery will be scarce.
One form of minimalist art that I absolutely love is printmaking. Something about the subtle shadows cast by the impression into the paper really grab me.
I didn’t go through the entire design process of branding myself (yet!) but for now I’ve found some imagery that I think fits with the feel of the website.
I decided to give the entire webpage a paper texture, and have my “branding” be letterpressed into the paper. But just because the website’s images are scarce, doesn’t mean there won’t be many images up there. Blog posts will have loads of images (you just won’t be distracted by my website’s images).
For my site I wanted my work and my images to be the main focus of the site. The images will be separate into their specific category and will almost look like a pile of photos. I want to do it this way so everything doesn’t seem so rigid, that is why I want to the images to “fly” in and out of the pile as you click on them. I also made the images cropped a certain way in that you only see a small portion of it. I figure just seeing a small bit will make people curious and they only way they can see the whole image is if they click on it.
This is what I have so far for my portfolio site.
This is what I think my home page will look like. I wanted to have my contact information right on the page. Along with a little blurb about what I do and a pictures from projects.
This is what I was thinking would show up when someone clicks on my portfolio. It will show an overview of a bunch of projects and then list the projects on the sidebar so people could also choose the projects there.
This is what it will look like when someone clicks on one of the projects in my portfolio. After they are on a certain project people can still click on projects in the sidebar. I will give a little information about each project and they can click on the small images and I want to have them fade into the big image.
