Objective | Review the work of each group member make revisions as necessary and then choose one style sheet for the whole group. Introduce some advanced features of InDesign
Preparation
reading | Web Typography ILT
print | two formatted articles, and one page with additional titles & authors. Each student should have a proposed style sheet for the group book.
digital | have all digital files in a format that can be transfored between computers.
web host | have a web host and domain name
Teach One Another
discuss | web typography
demo | InDesign book and automation features
Work together as a group to choose a style sheet that gives clearity with a good use of hierarchy. It may be a combination of several students. Mark up and correct the first draft pages.
Work in groups to make a book document, sync style sheets and master pages and generated a table of contents.

assignment skills | in InDesign you should be able to:
- make a book document
- control section and page numbering
- auto generate table of contents
- develop styles for contents page
- Import the paragraph and character styles
- import a master page into InDesign
Ponder and Prove
The document is now coming together but will need a refining push to finish it well.
While using InDesign you should have become aware that switching style sheets can make a dramatic change in a printed document. It also made the documents uniform so that they looked like documents from the same book.
This concept of using, updating or switching style sheets is used extensively when working on the web.

Objective | Welcome to class. Today we need to introduce ourselves and the course, cover some housekeeping items, and have a discussion that will give context to where each of you fit in relationship to web industry expectations.
Prepare
Before class | Read the Monograph from Teaching the Web and be ready to discuss web design in a university setting.

Discussion | Teach the Web
- Teach the Web has a Monograph which is a compilation of 32 interviews with web professionals from around the world. The discussion needs to be based on information from the article so you may want to print out quotes or other parts that you would like to discuss.
Launch | Assignment No. 01
Content Document | objective | The ability to assess content from a variety of sources and then develop a structure that illuminates and unifies the information.
Before you leave | a check list

- paste into MS Word
- remove formating

Ponder and Prove
This class period covered introductions, discussions with the help of industry professionals and an assignment launch. We also reviewed/demonstrated some skills that you will need to be prepared for the next class period.
Take some time to think about the discussions regarding your near future and what future employers are looking for. What is your desired outcome in attending school here? Are you moving toward the outcome? Do you have a defined outcome?
