Welcome. Many of you have requested more information about the course and what you could do to prepare.
- Required Reading | teachtheweb.com: Teaching web design at the University level is a topic of discussion in the web community. Because you are planning on taking this course, study teachtheweb.com. It should give you a good idea of what is expected of you upon graduation. Come prepared the first day of class to discuss the information presented and what you think it means to your future as a graphic designer.
- Comment on your experience designing for the web. It will help me know where you are in the process and how to best help you.
- Explore the resources in the sidebar to begin to familiarize yourself with the technology you will be using in the course. Focus on css. I will be adding to the list.
- Start a WordPress Blog | www.wordpress.com: (If you already have a blog using WordPress you don’t need to start a new one.) Experiment with the themes and capabilities that WordPress offers.
- Find one interesting fact about Pygmy Goats to share in class on the first day. (Trust me on this one.)

(experience with the web)
The only web experience that I have is with the planning stages. Making site maps and skematic trees that shows what you want connected to where. We also went through target audiences for each part of the site and what it is we thought they would be accessing and why, (I was part of the new BYU-Idaho web team, thus the “we.”)
I’ve also seen some of the constraints of working for the web, ie: file sizes must be smaller and will sacrifice textures or other small details if not put together right.
Other than that I’m just another web surfer who doesn’t quite understand whats going on with the web but enjoys the ride.

(experience with the web)
I have some experience with the web, but most of it is flash. I took a Flash and Dreamweaver course at an applied technology college, but that was back in 2005. I built a few flash and Dreamweaver sites for the classes and was exposed to site mapping, target audiences, browser compatibilities, etc. I recently signed up for a domain on hostmonster.com (with the intention of building my professional online portfolio) and have been playing around a little with html.

I have only been self taught some easy HTML coding with previous blogs/social networking sites.

I made a geocities website for my high school band when I was 16. It’s pretty embarassing. So I am going to go with no experience.
