Bolt and Flower
This was an interesting photo shoot because I actually discovered a lot of new places in Rexburg. This picture is only one of tons of favorite pictures that I took during this photo shoot. I followed the train tracks to a lot of different places including a broken building foundation covered in graffiti. It was an adventure.
This picture is enjoyable to me because it combines the creation of man and nature in one piece. The differences are blatant. The two are obvious opposites and do not match very well. The metal itself came from nature at one point and man just formed it and purified it into what it is today. It is an interesting compare and contrast picture that can bring about differing symbolic meanings. The quality in this .gif is poor and the actual photo has a much richer color sheme to it.

Phosphabet
The project was very interesting to me in that I wanted to create and find some new way of creating the alphabet. My main goal was to invent a new perspective and in my search for that goal I discovered that if you dripped water on paper with some water color and then held the paper up to the light it would create this glowing phosphorous feel. Somehow I tied that idea into cave lichen that glows in the dark in some areas of the world and the idea stuck with me and I proceeded to try and create that feeling. I loved the idea because the alphabet is something so common and understood and the object I was trying to recreate was so unknown and undiscovered! It was an intriguing twist on the alphabet, using the symbols that fosters our communication and recreating them in a form or an idea that is for the most part unknown.
The piece works itself because it is so interesting. The bright flares of light and color are interesting however the composition itself is a little lacking in design and organization. This lack of order is looked over a little because of the chaotic organic forms but the flaw is evident. I am happy with the outcome of the piece because I achieved something new and interesting and that was my main goal. I appreciated the idea that communication is not just enclosed to the normal mediums and parameters but that it can move beyond what we normally think and perceive. I enjoyed the project a lot!
