WEEK 1
I chose this image of my pet project item, a group of four wood screws, as my favorite from the first week because I enjoy the negative space created around the screws by cropping a close up. The relationship they have with each other with the different angles creates an interesting image as well.

WEEK 2
This image is my favorite from week two for similar reasons as the first. They have compositions that incorporate the same elements and principles of design including the negative space. An added element are the shadows and the background.

WEEK 3
I was able to go a different direction with the third set of photos I took compared to the first and second. I chose this image as my favorite from the third week because I enjoy the view of the jar from the top where you can’t really easily tell what it is. It creates an interesting perspective that makes the viewer look closer.

Necklace Alphabet

by Briton

When creating this found alphabet I wanted to use an object that people are familiar with and can be found in most homes.  I decided to use necklaces to do this.  I enjoyed using necklaces to make my alphabet because I was able to transform an item we are used to seeing in an arc shape into new shapes that represent letter forms.

An alphabet created with necklaces.

An alphabet created with necklaces.

The main elements I focused on when choosing which pieces of jewelry to use were color and texture. You can recognize it as an alphabet from a distance and a closer look reveals texture and various shades of color. As I designed the page I chose to align the letters with even spacing in between to resemble a jewelry case we would find when shopping for the perfect accessory.

Overall I was pleased with the way my alphabet turned out.  It is interesting while cohesive creating a pleasing visual. It gives the viewer a unique experience that will effect the way they view everyday objects around them fulfilling the purpose of the piece.

Learning Summary

This assignment was a great learning experience particularly when it came to my knowledge of the tools.  I gained new abilities in both Photoshop and InDesign which will help me with future assignments.  I also learned to look at an ordinary object in an interesting and unexpected way.  An experience always proves to be a positive one when my views are broadened and expanded.
