I made the type align to the left to create more rhythm in the spreads. I also changed the first few spreads. I was wondering if I should make the spreads more cohesive? Does the type seem too chunked together?

Pet Project: Week 10

Handle Bar on Red Shoe

Handle Bar on Red Shoe

I chose this picture of the handle bar on a red shoe. The red on the shoe pops out at the viewer while the black gives the image contrast. There is also alignment with the variety of shoes. I wanted a picture of the handle bar in something else since one of my areas of focus for this project might be geared more towards having an object go inside the handle bar or making it look like it goes with another object.

Ray of Pink Light

Pink Ray of Light

I picked this photo of the handle bar on a pink piece of fabric because of the bright light that it produced inside of the handle bar. I also like the color of the light and how radiant it is. It kind of looks like pink fire going up into a tube.

Repeated handle bar

Repeated handle bar

I chose this picture of the handle bar because I liked that it repeated itself with the help of a mirror. I liked the repetition of the object, and the fact that it was an object inside of another object. I like looking at objects that haveĀ  something inside of them, which is the reason why I chose it.

Handle bar on skillette

Handle bar on a skillet

I picked this photo of a handle bar on a skillet because I thought that the two objects went well together since they are both black. In a way it looks as though the handle bar is the handle on the skillet. I also chose it because of the perspective at which the handle bar is at. I wanted the image to go from the bottom left-hand corner all the way to the upper right-hand corner to show depth and to make it more interesting.

Floating handle bar

Floating handle bar

I picked this photo of the handle bar because, if you examine it closely or when it is larger, it looks as if it is floating in air rather than on the ground. I also like how clear the image came out. It is fun when someone can take a photo and make it appear like something else.

Pet Project: Week 5

Handle bar in a rusted flag holder

Handle bar in a rusted flag holder

I chose this photo because of how crystal clear the image is along with the angle that the handle bar is at. It goes from the top left-hand corner to the bottom right-hand corner, which gives the image flow. I also liked the variety of colors; the green grass makes the handle bar pop out at the viewer. In all I like choosing photos that show the object up close so that the viewer can feel like they are there and almost touching the object themselves.

Handle bar with rusted tubes display

Handle bar with rusted tubes display

So I decided to put the handle bar with a display of rusted tubes in the Spori building. The middle of the handle bar had a similar kind of shape as the nozzles on the tubes, so I decided to take a picture of the objects altogether at different angles. The handle bar in some ways unites with the rusted tubes in the fact that their shapes areĀ  somewhat similar, yet they differ because of their textures, colors and the materials used to make them. So variety and unity was accomplished in this photo, which is the reason why I chose it for this week.

Pet Project: Three Photos

by Parrin

This project has been challenging at times with trying to find different, unique and abstract ways of making my “pet” look interesting. Although it’s a challenge at times, I have enjoyed doing this project. I have found other ways of making my “pet” look like something else other than just a handle bar.

Rubber handle at an angle

Handle bar on a bike

Handle bar on a bike

For the first part of the Pet Project, I chose this image of the handle bar because of the quality of the photo along with the angle that it was at. Depth and dimension are displayed giving a clear view of the handle bar.

I chose the second image with the inside of the handle bar placed on top of a Playdo lid. It reminded me of the scene in the movie Fantasia with the dinosaurs. It also looks like outer space with a ray of light penetrating through the darkness. I also liked it because it is more abstract than the other pictures that I have taken.

For the third image I chose to place the handle bar on a bike. I chose this picture because it displays what the handle bar would usually be on along with a clear view of the handle bar on the bike. It shows the handle bar in its element.

Crocheted Alphabet

by Parrin

Everyday we see hundreds of images. In many of these images, there is all kinds of type being used. For this assignment, the alphabet was to be recreated by using everyday objects.

I used crocheted letters on a black background.

I used crocheted letters on a black background.

In the process, I used some crocheted and knitted pieces to make an alphabet. I also used some crochet hooks to create some of the letter forms. I put the green and purple crocheted letters on the knitted background to create contrast. I placed black in the background so that I would not have any other colors become a distraction to the piece. I used different colors from purple to green to create variety but kept it mostly green so that it would be cohesive.

There are many objects and devices that are all around us if we just look for them. By using these everyday objects we can create something unique, interesting and aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

Learning Summary

It was fun using something that I was familiar with to create type. Overall I enjoyed doing this project because I used my passion for crocheting and knitting to make a different form of art.
